Our Story

Mubdi’ān (مبدعان) is an Arabic word that literally translates to ‘two creative people.’
Founders Alaa and Osmaan get their design inspiration from their respective North African and South Asian backgrounds. Their designs imbue a modern take on their cultures' most classical elements (read: patterns, shapes, hues, poetry, calligraphy, and stuff that, you know, only we get 😉). They also love designing products based on their love for travel (fun fact: they first met each other in France in 2012, where Alaa was an architect living in Paris, and Osmaan was just passing through on a layover—a story for another day!)

Together, they founded Mubdian in 2018 because they felt a void—their cultures were significantly under-represented on mainstream products on a global scale. When there were products representing their backgrounds, the design would always leave something to be desired. Both full-time creatives by trade, their goal is to make cities like Casablanca and Karachi ring as familiar to the Western ear as LA and NYC.
